Reading as Comprehension

  1. Literal
  2. Interpretative-inferential; “reading between the lines”, assumptions, context clues
  3. Evaluative/Critical- lay personal judgment on text re: style, author, setting, context, content
  4. Integration/Application- practical use, relevance of text
    – is there contrast, parallelism between reader’s experience and text?
  5. Creative- divergent, other ways of looking at the story i.e. children can make their own endings, characters, etc
